I want to make my own no sew dog bed. (The kind where you fringe the edges and tie them together instead of sewing) What is the best fabric to resist hair and tearing?
Canvas or sailcloth are strong, washable and frayable. Perfect for what you want to do and will last virtually forever.
Also to remove dog hair all you have to do with these materials is brush or vacuum them. Hey Presto, it's magic!
Whats the best way to keep my dogs dog box warm during the winter? Right now I put straw in her box and put a blanket over top of that so shes comfortable. Is this good or should I buy her some kind of dog bed? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
You sound pretty much on target with what you already do. If the doghouse has an open door front we would attach like a blanket or burlap feed sack over it so the COLD wind and snow wouldn't blow so directly in fido's face. It's not perfect but it helps and fido will be greatful for any assistance. It also allows them to easily go back and forth to eat and drink and potty. They can use their nose to nudge back in just the same way they learn to come out of their warm bed. Good luck!
She has been sleeping with us for about 6 months and I want her out! I'm thinking a dog bed, then treating her like crazy when she gets in it. Any other ideas? Thanks!
Sometimes the dog wants to be with you because they associate your scent with comfort. Take an old t-shirt and put it in a doggy bed. Everytime she gets in bed with you, you have to make her get down. She need to know you mean business, so you can't let up. I have my dog's bed placed by the window with her own special blanket and she's happy as a lark now. She hated it for the first 6 months we had her. But now she goes right to her bed.
I just bought a massive pillow/bed thing for my dog who seems determind not to use it and has resigned herself to sleeping on the hard tile floor…………. I don't think she grasps the concept of what it is.
you have to let her know that it's hers – call her over and feed her while she's lying on it, do it regularly, soon enough it'll be habit for her to stay on there.
I had a small bed for the cat and they both used it. I got a bigger bed for the dog and the cat has taken it over. My dog respects the cat as alpha and tries to lay in this tiny little bed that he can hardly fit in while the cat strecthes out in the bigger bed. It is humorous, but can I fix this?>
I think you're going to have to get another bed just like the new one. The cat can't lie in two at the same time. It is pretty funny, I can see exactly how it happens. You might try just removing the cat anytime you see it in the dog's bed and then encourage the dog to lie in it but I'm not sure that will work. Cats can be very determined. Is it possible that the cat just likes the cover on the dog bed? Maybe you just need some fabric like the kind on the dog bed to tempt the cat away from it and lie somewhere else.
My dog has slept in the same bed as me all his life. But lately hes been getting on my nerves lol. And sometimes keeps me awake. I wanna train him to sleep in a bed next to mine. But everytime i put him there he gets up right away and gets back in my bed! How can I train him to sleep on it? Is it mean to do it after hes slept in a bed all his life?
i believe this is a case of "…old dog new trick"
but it is possible, you just have to be willing to deal with it.
dogs respond to aggressiveness (doesn't necessarily have to be violent). if you want him to get off your bed then scold him. then direct him to the bed you want him to sleep in.
it would also help if you put his bed between your bed and the entrance to the room. dogs like to sleep between you and the entrance to the room to "protect" you. even if their not an aggressive dog they still have the instinct.

My dog sleeps in her kennel at night. I buy dog beds for her to sleep on and everytime I do that she tears it up in there. I wake up only to find her bed in shreds inside her kennel. But when she sleeps in there for a nap during the day nothing happens. It's cold now and she still chews up her bed and I feel so bad because she's probably cold, but not matter how many beds I get her the same thing happens. What can I do so that she doesn't chew up her bed when she sleeps at night?
Well, let me see. Maybe just give her a blanket of some sort that she doesn't have to tear up. All dogs usually scratch and dig to make a place to sleep. So, don't buy another bed, Put blankets in or even soft large towels that are easily washed when they get dirty. I use any old blankets or rugs or towels for my dog. He likes to scratch. But then he sleeps with me at night so he has it made. He still scratches before he lays down. It could be that she is bored from the long night and does this because she has nothing to keep her busy. Give her a rawhide chew at night to keep her busy. Good luck.
